PRESS RELEASE OSSIE to Launch on SpaceX Transporter-18 Mission, Marking a Milestone for the Spanish Space Industry Nigran,SpainApril 30, 2026

OSSIE has been confirmed as a payload on the SpaceX Transporter-18 rideshare mission, becoming the first fully Spain-developed Orbital Transfer Vehicle (OTV) to join this highly selective class of platforms worldwide.

The launch of OSSIE on this mission represents a significant milestone for the Spanish space industry and strengthens its position within the rapidly expanding New Space ecosystem, a key sector for the future of space infrastructure and services.

A strategic step forward in orbital transportation

On its maiden mission, OSSIE will deploy payloads for 12 customers, both national and international, offering advanced orbital transport and positioning capabilities that go beyond traditional rideshare deployment models.

These solutions enable:

  • Optimized orbital insertion for small satellites
  • Management of multiple hosted payloads aboard a single orbital vehicle
  • Reduced dependence on standard drop-off orbits
  • Improved operational efficiency for satellite constellations and dedicated missions
  • Access to new orbital regimes, including Low Earth Orbit (LEO)

100% Spain-developed technology

OSSIE integrates fully Spain-developed technology, strengthening both national and European industrial capabilities in a strategic segment of the space value chain.

The project positions Spain not only as a participant in the New Space ecosystem, but as an emerging contributor to the development of critical orbital infrastructure.

A turning point for the sector

The Transporter-18 mission, part of SpaceX’s rideshare program, represents a key step in enabling new space mobility solutions. OSSIE’s inclusion underscores the growing role of the Spanish space industry in advancing next-generation orbital capabilities.
